Late last year I was invited to become the first new member of the photo cooperative, LUCEO Images, since its inception in 2007. It is something I am deeply excited about. Each of the founding members are very talented, passionate and brilliant in their own special way. I am really looking forward to the coming year.
This means however that I have moved this blog to the LUCEO website – my new address is http://luceoimages.com/blog/daryl-peveto/. I hope you will check out my posts there – where I will have a twice-weekly column called My Backyard, as well as the blogs of my fellow members. Cheers.

I had the good fortune to shoot a portrait of Ernie and Diane Wolfe, owners of the Ernie Wolfe Gallery and are the most renowned African art dealers in the country. They were incredibly kind and great fun to spend time with. Their 3,500 sq. ft. home is based on a Quonset hut and is full of amazing and beautiful art.

I shot the band Warpaint for FADER Magazine in August at the end of their tour with Moon Rats. After their show at the Silent Movie Theater, they kindly invited me to hang back at Moon Rats guitarists Nathan Thelan’s home in the hills above Studio City. We relaxed with whiskey and some serious pool time. It was a great night.

A friend of mine woke me up from a nap today with a phone call about a fire in the oil fields behind my house. These are the details as of about 9 p.m.,
A fire was reported just after 4 p.m. on Taylor Ranch just northwest of Ventura. According to Ventura County PIO, Ron Oatman, the fire had burned about 30 acres and, as of 9 p.m., was about 25 percent contained. The hilly landscape is filled with oil fields owned by Aera Energy, and oil and gas producer.
The winds were mostly cooperating, as two helicopters and two fire planes dropped water and retardant on the blaze. About 100 firefighters from the Cities of Ventura, Oxnard and Santa Paula as well as Ventura County are helping to battle the fire. Oatman said fire officials still did not know the exact cause of the fire. They were investigating whether a downed power line might have triggered the blaze.

Tuesday evening was spent on assignment shooting LA based singer-songwriter-producer Cameron Mesilow, whose alter ego is the project Glasser. Her music is deeply beautiful, but shooting her personalities was like shooting ten different women – so alive. I can’t remember having so much fun making a portrait. She was a dream to shoot – completely unaware that I was in the room with her. Sorry it is a long edit.

I am working with friends Paul Myers, Greg Cooper and Susan Bloom to put together a tuition-free multimedia workshop this summer for college students and visual journalists who have been laid-off in the past two years. Our goal is to give back: to an industry and to a community that have generous to us. The workshop will be tuition-free for all participants and all the work produced will be donated to the City of Ventura so they can develop an historical document.
We have an amazing group of featured guests who are also donating their time and knowledge to make this possible, including Tom Kennedy, Scott Anger, Pauline Lubens, Dave Labelle, Jim Merithew, Grover Sanschagrin, Myung Chun, Sean Connelley and Katy Newton. This list will continue to grow as we build this opportunity.

I am starting a new project dealing with alternative energy – focusing on how we acquire, process, use and deal with energy sources. I want to look at both alternative and traditional sources of energy. For the first set of work I am looking at things around my neighborhood – alternative lifestyles and the oil drilling both nearby and off shore. The images below are from an old refinery near my house, situated next to the Ventura River.
