Shell Fire

A friend of mine woke me up from a nap today with a phone call about a fire in the oil fields behind my house. These are the details as of about 9 p.m.,

A fire was reported just after 4 p.m. on Taylor Ranch just northwest of Ventura. According to Ventura County PIO, Ron Oatman, the fire had burned about 30 acres and, as of 9 p.m., was about 25 percent contained. The hilly landscape is filled with oil fields owned by Aera Energy, and oil and gas producer.

The winds were mostly cooperating, as two helicopters and two fire planes dropped water and retardant on the blaze. About 100 firefighters from the Cities of Ventura, Oxnard and Santa Paula as well as Ventura County are helping to battle the fire. Oatman said fire officials still did not know the exact cause of the fire. They were investigating whether a downed power line might have triggered the blaze.
